Does Thryft Ship Support Soft Closes?
Yes! A soft close (also called anti-sniping) is exactly what our Smart Extend setting does. When a bid lands in the final minutes, it nudges the timer so everyone gets a fair last chance — no more losing an item to a last-second snipe.
- A soft close means the auction doesn’t just cut off — a late bid extends the timer a little so bidding settles fairly.
- On Thryft Ship this is the Smart Extend setting, and you turn it on in your Sales Assistant settings.
- You control how it behaves — the trigger window, how long it extends, and a cap so bidding never runs forever.
What a soft close is
Without a soft close, an auction ends at a hard stop — whoever bids in the last second wins, even if someone else would have happily gone higher. That’s called sniping, and it frustrates buyers. A soft close fixes it: if a bid comes in near the end, the clock extends a bit so everyone has a fair chance to respond. Bidding wraps up naturally instead of on a knife’s edge.
How Thryft Ship does it: Smart Extend
Turn on Smart Extend in your Sales Assistant settings and the Sales Assistant handles the soft close automatically on every auction. You stay in control of how it behaves:
- Trigger window — how close to the end a bid has to be to extend the timer (you can set 5, 15, or 30 minutes).
- Extend by — how much time each late bid adds (10, 15, or 30 minutes).
- A 24-hour cap — bidding will never extend more than 24 hours past the original end, so a drop can’t run forever.
- An editable comment — the message buyers see when the timer extends (the “Smart Extend comment”) is yours to reword.
Common questions
Does Thryft Ship have a soft-close setting?
Yes — it’s called Smart Extend, and you turn it on in your Sales Assistant settings. When it’s on, a late bid automatically extends the timer so nobody gets sniped.
Can bidding go on forever if people keep bidding?
No. There’s a 24-hour cap — the timer will never extend more than 24 hours past the original end time, so a drop always wraps up.
Can I change how much time each bid adds?
Yes. You set the trigger window (5, 15, or 30 minutes before the end) and how much time each late bid adds (10, 15, or 30 minutes). See How Smart Extend Works for the details.
