One Open-Bidding Item in a Buy It Now Drop?
Bidding and Buy It Now are set for the whole drop, not item by item. So what if you want most items to have a Buy It Now price, but one item to stay open bidding with no instant buy? You’ve got two easy ways to do it.
- Bidding/Buy It Now is a drop-level setting — it applies to every item in that drop.
- Option 1: put the open-bidding item in its own drop, set to bidding only.
- Option 2: keep it in the same drop but set a very high Buy It Now price on that item and say “open bidding” in its caption.
Why this comes up
Whether a drop uses bidding, Buy It Now, or both is chosen once for the entire drop — see Bids vs. Buy It Now. There isn’t a per-item on/off switch, so if your drop has Buy It Now turned on, every item can be bought instantly at its Buy It Now price. Here’s how to let just one item run as a pure auction.
Option 1: Give it its own drop
The cleanest option: put that one item in a separate drop with bidding only (Buy It Now off). The rest of your items stay in their Buy It Now drop. Two drops, each set up exactly how you want.
Option 2: Set an outrageous Buy It Now price
If you’d rather keep everything in one drop, set a very high Buy It Now price on the item you want to be open bidding — high enough that no one would realistically pay it. That effectively keeps it an auction, since no bid will reach the Buy It Now price. Then add a line in that item’s caption letting customers know it’s open bidding.
Common questions
Can I turn off Buy It Now for just one item?
Not directly — bidding and Buy It Now are set for the whole drop. Use a separate drop, or the high-price workaround above.
Which option is better?
A separate drop is the cleanest. The high-price trick is handy when you want everything to post together in one drop.
Where do I set bidding and Buy It Now?
In your Sales Assistant settings, before you upload the drop’s photos.
