What is the Email Field For?

2 min read · Updated June 2026

When you create a shipping order on Thryft Ship, you’ll see an email field for your customer. Here’s what it does, when it’s required, and why filling it in is worth it.

TL;DR
  • Tracking on autopilot — with an email on file, your customer automatically gets a tracking email the moment you buy the label.
  • Creating a label manually? Email is optional — name and address are all you need.
  • Customer filling out your Customer Link? Email is always required — they get an order confirmation email after submitting.

Required or optional? Depends on who’s typing

Optional

You create the label manually

Filling out an order from your dashboard with + New Shipping Label? All that’s required is your customer’s name and address. Email is a nice bonus if you have it.

Required

Your customer uses your link

When customers fill in their own info through your Customer Link, email is always required. They get an order confirmation email recapping their submission.

What your customer’s email unlocks

  • Automatic tracking updates. The moment you purchase the label, Thryft Ship emails your customer their tracking info — no “where’s my package?” DMs needed.
  • Order confirmation. After submitting through your link, your customer gets a confirmation email recapping their order.
  • Their own profile. A customer’s email is also their key to managing their saved info — they can request a secure sign-in link (no password needed) to update their details. How customer profiles work →
Tell customers to check spam Thryft Ship emails come from notifications@thryftship.com. If a customer says they didn’t get their tracking or confirmation email, have them check spam and add that address to their contacts.

Common questions

Do I have to enter an email to buy a label?

No — if you’re creating the order yourself, name and address are all that’s required. Without an email, your customer just won’t get automatic tracking updates.

My customer didn’t get their tracking email. What now?

Have them check their spam folder for notifications@thryftship.com. Still nothing? Double-check the email on the order for typos, and reach out to us if it looks right.

Can my customer change the email they used?

Yes — they can request a secure sign-in link to their profile and update their details there. Here’s how that works.

Happy shipping with Thryft Ship!
