Coming Soon: Payments Through Thryft Ship!

Marlee
April 19, 2025

Big news, sellers! We’re making it even easier for your customers to check out with a brand-new payment option through your Thryft Ship Link. This feature is launching soon, and we wanted to give you all the details now so you’re ready when it drops! Soon, instead of just collecting addresses and manually handling payments, you’ll have the option to accept payments directly—streamlining the entire process from sale to shipment.

How It Works

Sellers will have the option to toggle on payments through their Thryft Ship Link. If enabled, you’ll have two choices for how payments are handled:

  1.  Always Accept Immediate Payments (Available in the first release): Customers are required to pay at checkout. This is the default and only option in the initial version.
  2. Pay Now / Pay Later (Coming soon)
Customers can choose to either pay immediately or delay payment, making it Open Bag–friendly for sellers who allow bundling purchases over time.
Note: This option will be controlled via a toggle in your settings, so you can turn it on or off at any time.

A Voluntary Feature – Use It Only If You Want To!

We know that every shop operates differently, so this payment feature is completely optional. You are not required to accept payments through Thryft Ship if you don’t want to. If it makes sense for your shop, great! If you prefer to handle payments another way, you can continue doing so. This feature is designed to be a tool to simplify your workflow, not a requirement. There will also be a Toggle option in Settings to turn this function On/Off as well!

What This Means for Your Customers

Think of it like Venmo, but built for your business. You’ll still be responsible for telling your buyers how much they owe, but when they check out through your Thryft Ship Link, they’ll enter the amount due and pay directly within your Thryft Ship Link.

Since Stripe processes the payments, there is a standard processing fee of 2.9% + $0.39 per transaction. This fee is automatically added to the total at checkout and is charged to the customer, meaning you don’t have to worry about covering it out of pocket. Thryft Ship does not take any part of this fee—it goes entirely to Stripe for handling the payment.

💡 Example: Let’s say you sell a shirt for $30. Your customer will enter that amount at checkout when paying through the link.

  • Their total at checkout will be $31.20, including Stripe’s standard credit card processing fee of 2.9% + $0.39.

  • The Stripe fee is charged to the customer meaning your earnings are not affected by this. Thryft Ship does NOT profit from the stripe fee.

What About Shipping Cost?

Depending on how you handle your shipping costs, there are a few different ways this will work for you!

  • If you include shipping in your price, your customers will enter their total in the blank and they’re done!
    • When filling out the form, your customers will be prompted to enter in all of their items and then the total, so if you include the shipping in your total or have your customers pay all at once, that is where they can put both
  • If you have open bags or have customers pay for shipping separately:
    • Your customers will fill out your form again, and when they enter in their handle, it will show they have an open bag
    • Your customer will then add “shipping” as a line item to let you know they have paid

How You Get Paid

Thryft Ship will take a 2% commission on the item price (not including the Stripe fee), and the rest of your profit goes straight into your Thryft Ship Account. Going off the example from above, from the sale of the $30 shirt, Thryft Ship would make $0.60, and the other $29.40 would go into your Thryft Ship account.

From there, you can:

✅ Payout your earnings anytime (similarly to Venmo)
✅ Use your balance to purchase shipping labels in Thryft Ship

Let’s Talk Sales Tax

For the time being, Thryft Ship will not be collecting sales tax at checkout. As we are new to facilitating sales, we have not yet met the economic nexus thresholds required to collect tax in most states. In the future, once those thresholds are met, we will implement automatic sales tax calculations and include the appropriate amounts during checkout.

Why This is a Game-Changer

🚀 No more DM back-and-forth for payments
🚀 More flexibility for Open Bag sales
🚀 Faster, smoother checkout = more sales

This update keeps payments simple, secure, and directly tied to your shipping flow. Whether you’re running weekly live sales or letting customers claim items throughout the week, this feature makes it easy to sell and ship—all in one place.

🛠 This feature is coming soon! In the mean time, please fill out this form to share your thoughts and sign up for updates.

As always, happy shipping! 🚀
