📦 USPS Rates Are Changing July 13th: Here is the Breakdown

Marlee
July 7, 2025

Starting July 13, 2025, USPS is rolling out new rates for domestic services like Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, and Flat Rate options. We’re breaking it down so you’re not caught off guard and can keep shipping smoothly.

💡 First things first: What does this mean for you?

Whether you’re shipping a tee or a full thrift haul, these changes could impact your costs depending on what you ship and where it’s going. The biggest changes are hitting Priority Mail, but there’s good news too. Some rates are staying the same or even going down.

Let’s get into it.

📦 Ground Advantage

  • Most shipments are staying the same (yay!)

  • Packages under 1 lb will see a small ~4.5% increase

  • Packages over 20 lbs will increase by 2.8% flat

Ground Advantage is still one of the most affordable and reliable options, especially for lighter packages.

🚨 Priority Mail

  • This is where we’re seeing the biggest increases

  • Shipments to Zones 4–6 could rise by up to 51%

  • Under 1 lb? Expect some noticeable jumps

  • Over 1 lb? Increases could reach 28%

But there’s a silver lining, 2–3 lb packages going to Zones 1–4 will decrease by up to 6.5%, and Priority Mail Cubic to those same zones may drop by 10%.

📦 Flat Rate Boxes & Envelopes

  • Padded Flat Rate Envelope: +4%

  • Legal Flat Rate Envelope: +9%

  • Small Flat Rate Box: +3%

  • Medium Flat Rate Box: +11%

  • Large Flat Rate Box: +7%

  • Regular Flat Rate Envelope: No change 🎉

Flat Rate remains a solid option if you prefer predictable pricing, but with the increases, it’s worth comparing with standard Priority or Ground Advantage for each shipment.

📚 Media Mail

Rates for Media Mail are decreasing by around 2%, so if you’re sending out books or educational materials, this one’s a win.

✨ Priority Mail Express

There’s no change to Priority Mail Express pricing.🎉

What Thryft Ship is doing:

We’ll automatically reflect the new USPS rates on Thryft Ship starting July 13th, so there’s nothing you need to change manually. Just keep shipping like normal, and we’ve got your back.

📬 Pro Tip: If you haven’t already, try out Ground Advantage for lighter packages – it’s still one of the best value-for-money options out there.

🚀 Final Summary

USPS is increasing rates for several services, especially Priority Mail to farther zones—but not everything is going up. Ground Advantage remains affordable for most packages, Media Mail is getting cheaper, and some shorter-distance Priority shipments will actually cost less.

We’re here to help you make the best shipping choice each time without the guesswork.

As always, if you have questions or want to double-check the cheapest option, just send us a message or head to your Thryft Ship dashboard.
