2025 USPS Rate Changes in Comparison to Holiday Rates

USPS has lowered prices for most domestic services and raised rates for a few, as of January 19, 2025.

USPS rate changes took effect on January 19, 2025, bringing updates that include both price decreases and adjustments for certain services all in comparison to Holiday Rates. Many domestic rates have dropped compared to holiday pricing, offering savings opportunities, while select services for shipments to Canada and Australia have seen increases.


Highlights of the 2025 USPS Rate Updates

Lower domestic rates: USPS has decreased rates across many domestic services, especially in comparison to holiday rates, with reductions ranging from 1% to 26%.

Increases for select packages: A few weight and zone combinations for Ground Advantage and Priority Mail now have slightly higher rates.

Changes for Canada and Australia: Rates for shipping to these destinations have seen modest increases under specific services.


January 2025 Domestic USPS Rates

Ground Advantage

  • Weight-Based Ground Advantage: Rates decreased by an average of 3.2%.

    • Increases: Packages weighing 5 to 15.99 oz now cost 12 to 24 cents more. Packages between 4-6 lbs traveling to Zones 1-4 have increased by up to 55 cents.
  • Cubic Ground Advantage: Rates decreased by an average of 1.2%.

    • Increases: Packages in cubic tiers 0.4-0.6 shipping to Zones 1-4 may cost up to 53 cents more.

Priority Mail

  • Flat Rate: Prices dropped by an average of 2.7% for all Flat Rate options, except Large Flat Rate Boxes, which increased by 76 cents.
  • Cubic Priority Mail: Rates decreased by an average of 2.9%. Some shipments saw reductions of up to 7.3%.
    • Increases: Certain shipments may now cost more, depending on package size and shipping zone.
  • Weight-Based Priority Mail: Rates decreased by an average of 3.8%.
    • Decreases: Heavier packages (11-20 lbs) traveling to Zones 5-8 saw significant reductions of 9-26%.
    • Increases: Rates for packages under 20 lbs traveling to Zones 1-4 have increased by up to 8.7%. Packages going to Zone 9 have also gone up.

Priority Mail Express

Rates have mostly decreased—great news for expedited shippers!

Media Mail

No changes here—Media Mail rates remain the same.


January 2025 International USPS Rates — Canada and Australia

Priority Mail International

Rates to Canada and Australia increased by an average of 6%, with some shipments to Canada seeing increases of up to 29%.

Priority Mail Express International

Rates to Canada and Australia increased by an average of 5%.
