Payments Beta Tester Tutorial

Marlee
July 14, 2025

A Quick Guide for Getting Started

Welcome to the beta testing of Payments! This feature is all about letting your customers check out directly from your Thryft Ship form — making things easier, faster, and more organized on your end.

If you need a refresher on what Payments are and what all they’ll include, check out this blog post.

This post is your onboarding guide — it covers what’s new, how to get started, and what to expect.

🚀 What’s Different

Your Thryft Ship form now lets buyers check out directly — no separate payment steps needed. It works a lot like Venmo: the buyer types in the amount they owe and pays it on the spot. No “Pay Later” option yet, but that’s coming soon.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Payments will automatically be toggled ON once you’ve completed the Stripe setup. No need to turn it on manually — just finish setup and you’re good to go! If you ever want to turn Payments off, you can use the toggle in Settings → Payments. This will return your form to normal, no-checkout mode.

  • Paid status tracking: Orders now show whether they’ve been paid. This works whether or not you’re using the Payments feature.
    👉 More about that here.

  • Familiar buyer tagging: Your Instagram handle labels — like new customer, repeat customer, or open bag — still work exactly the same.

✅ Getting Started

Here’s how to get up and running:

  • Go to Settings → Payments and create or connect your Stripe account. The setup takes about 5 minutes and includes identity verification and linking your bank. When Stripe asks for a website during setup, you will use your business Instagram link — for example: instagram.com/kickin_thrifts. Setting up a Stripe account is required to receive payments.

  • Once that’s done, Payments will automatically be turned ON and activated for your form — no need to toggle it on manually.

  • You can toggle Payments OFF anytime in your settings if you prefer to go back to collecting payments manually.

⚙️ Payment Settings Overview

In your Settings → Payments, you can:

  • Choose which payment methods to accept — Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, and credit/debit cards are all enabled by default.

  • Manage your connected Stripe account

  • Toggle Payments on/off at any time

💵 Balances & Payouts

You’ll now see two new tabs in your dashboard:

  • Balance: Shows how much money is available to transfer to your bank account. You can trigger a payout whenever you’re ready.

  • Recent Payments: Shows a list of completed transactions, including buyer info, amounts, and status.

Funds typically settle in 1–2 business days before they’re available in your balance.

🔐 Safe & Secure

We use Stripe, a trusted global payment provider, to handle all transactions. Payment and bank information is never stored by Thryft Ship — and your payouts are deposited directly into your connected bank account.

🐛 This Is a Beta — Expect Bugs!

We’re still testing this feature, which means things may break or behave unexpectedly. If anything feels off, please let us know! Just shoot us a DM — your feedback helps us improve faster.

Thanks again for testing with us. We’re so excited to roll this out and make checkouts even easier for you and your customers 🎉
