How to Use Custom and Default Package Types on Thryft Ship
Shipping the same types of packages frequently? Save time and reduce repetitive steps by using Thryft Ship’s default package types. With this feature, you can pre-select the packaging and set optional dimensions for faster and more efficient label creation.
How Default Package Types Work
Default package types allow you to set up packaging preferences that will automatically be selected for every new order, saving you from having to manually enter the same information each time. Whether you ship in poly mailers, boxes, or custom sizes, you can set a default package type that fits your shipping needs.
Creating Default Package Types
- Log into your Thryft Ship account and click on your profile icon in the top right corner.
- In the dropdown menu, select “Package Type”.
- Here, you can create custom package types by entering a name, selecting a type (e.g., Box, PolyMailer), and entering dimensions if necessary (dimensions are optional).
- Once you’ve created your custom package type, you can select it from the list and click “Set Default Package”. This means that this packaging type will be automatically applied to all new orders in the future.
If you don’t have custom packages, don’t worry—you can still select from the two default options:
PolyMailer or Envelope: Best for lightweight shipments like clothes or documents. Dimensions are not required unless your package exceeds 18 inches in any direction or is more than 3 inches thick.
Box or Hard Packaging: Ideal for thicker shipments or sturdier items, especially if the package is more than 3/4 inch thick (common for bulkier clothing or multiple items).
Custom Packages in Thryft Ship Forms
Any custom package types you create will show up as options in the dropdown menu when you’re filling out the Thryft Ship shipping form. This way, if you’re shipping a variety of package types, you can easily switch between them based on the shipment.
When Dimensions Are Needed
Although you don’t need to enter dimensions for most packages, it’s required if your package is larger than one cubic foot (1728 cubic inches). You can calculate the size by multiplying Length x Width x Height. Including dimensions can also give you access to better rates, such as cubic pricing.
