A harmonization code is a number that tells customs exactly what your product is. You only need one when shipping internationally — on Thryft Ship, that means Canada and Australia.
- A harmonization code identifies your product so customs can figure out any duties or taxes.
- You only need one for international shipments — on Thryft Ship, Canada and Australia.
- Thryft Ship also asks for customs info (including the code) on shipments to US military bases (APO/FPO/DPO) and US territories.
- Look up your code with the free Schedule B tool — also linked right on your shipping form.
What is a harmonization code?
It’s a specific number assigned to a product. International mailing systems use it to keep records of what’s being imported, and to calculate the customs duties and import taxes owed to that country. Think of it like a student ID — a set of numbers that refers to one specific thing.
When do you need one?
Whenever customs needs to know what’s in the box. On Thryft Ship that means your international destinations — Canada and Australia — and also US military bases (APO/FPO/DPO) and US territories, where Thryft Ship asks for customs info as well. It helps customs clear your package smoothly.
